I have an area of approx 12m square in my garden that I would like to turn into a seating/barbeque area. Which would you say are more expensive, nice quality slabs or decking (excluding labour)?
Cheers.

all honesty they work out similar,
12m2 of paving would be £264 using real stone!! the best of the best, unless you mean 12mx12m area that would be £3168 lol, basically Travis Perkins builders merchants sell it at £22 per square metre if you haggle!!
decking is easier and cheaper to install,
paving looks better and is longer lasting
Travis Perkins Decking
Slabs, a good quality stone slab will outlast decking by decades but is more expensive. York Stone is the best.

Would depend what kind of slabs, as some are expensive, but generally decking would cost more.
A basic slab would be cheaper, but you have more options with a deck (multi-level, hand rails, hinged seating with storage space).
And a slab requires less maintenance. You also have options if you have deeper pockets. Concrete can be stamped, stained, etc.
slabs are cheaper and easier to lay and maintain, whereas decking looks alot nicer but costs more, needs alot more preparation on the ground work (i.e dug up,netting and treatment for the restriction of weeds and raised off ground), and alas it doesn't last have as long as well as needing annnual treatment for wood preservation.
The choice is now yours buddy!
slabs you can get from 99p in B&Q and decking will cost you about £15 per 4 foot by 4 foot.
Slabbing is more expensive for even average quality slabs, you can get good quality decking quiet cheaply
I think decking would be more expensive but its alot nicer!
Decking is more expensive and it also entails more ground work, as it has to be raised.
