I am looking to buy a compact cd/dab system for my dining room with decent sound quality and have budget of around £400 to spend.
I have heard mixed reviews about the Bose Wave system, would you recommend it or would I be better off going for a micro system made by the likes of Denon etc?
Cheers.

Do not waste your money on anything made by Bose, they do not perform well when pitted against ANY equipment of similar price.
Consider a separates system like number four on this site:

Many Bose products have fans, but those fans tens to be more interested in image than quality, Please, please read this link before you throw any money away......

Both these systems a excellent performers and can be uprated and added to in future.
I've heard the Wave Music System. It sounds like a good boom box. The only thing somewhat unique about it is the wave chamber that allows for a little lower bass response. I don't know what the return rate is now but at one time Wave Radios had a 40% return rate (and Bose still made a hefty profit on selling them!). Their product is marketed so well that many people are surprised to discover that Bose is considered a low end product by audiophiles. The products others have mentioned here (the small JVC mini-stereos and the Cambridge Soundworks table radios [Henry Kloss]) actually do sound better for less money.
I do not think much of any Bose systems. When the founder Amar Singh Bose was in charge of the company things were going well from a technology perspective. But now the systems are overpriced and not good at all. Bose will never publish its speaker specs for a reason - they are not good (as measured by other independent audio enthisiasts). None of the Bose systems are THX certified. Now this does not mean that all good systems should carry this certification but it does show that nothing in Bose's product line up is THX certified for a reason.
I would stay clear from from Bose and spend those $$ somewhere else for a much better, fulfilling experience. Denon, Marantz, Harmon Kardon, etc. make some very good audio receivers.
Bose Wave Dab Module
As an all in one package (contained speakers) I think you be hard to beat the Bose Wave System.
Denon are very good with top quality functions but I think like for like the Bose would win for me due to its simplicity.
I have Bose 3-2-1 system which is just awesome - went to local Bose dealer and checked out a few bits of kit all impressive sound quality.
Good things with Bose is that you can get them on 30 days free trial.
If you are adventurous you could check out the Bose Acoustic Wave System has external battery power pack for portability and you can DAB it the same way with the Wave DAB Module.
Best way as always with these purchases is check them out listen to them and compare all aspects to see what suites you best.
Good Luck
I don't have any knowledge of the other systems you mentioned but I do own a Bose Wave. I LOVE it! We hook it up to the tv for surround sound and it makes a huge difference. It's not the best for music with a lot of bass in my opinion. The sound is very clear. I like the relatively small size... I don't have to dedicate much space to it.
Edit- Wow, we have a hater up in here! The only answers that got a thumbs down was the pro Bose ones... this is an opinion question people! My opinion is that I like my system! I don't worry about image or brand names because I don't entertain at my home... I have a small apt and my kids are messy lol. Good luck with whatever sound system you choose.
its a fairly cheap stereo housed in a complex box with waveguides. They sound quite good (we have a Bose shop near us). I dont think they are worth the money though. They dont have all the MP3 business that is all the rage these days.
They are nice, but expensive. I don't think they are worth the money. The Denon is the better value.
It's not good, it's SUPERB.
