No, it is not irrational. But letting your fear rule your life is. By that I mean there are thousand of things we are a fraid of - dog bites, yet we pet dogs and may have one as a pet; fear of the opposite sex, yet we date amd marry; fear of failure, yet we try many things. Risk is a part of life. We take precautions without being paralyzed by fear. I fear flying not just because planes crash, but because there is little chance of survival when they do. I'll take my chances on the ground, thanks!.
i don't think it's irrational. i have the same fear and i know it's quite common. when you think about it it's not exactly 'normal' for something that big and heavy to stay up in the air without falling out the sky! so i don't think it's irrational at all.
It is rational because if your plane goes down, you are doomed. Plus, there are terrorists out there who enjoy taking down airplanes. If that isn't rational, I don't know what is!!!!!
I still fly, and I know the statistics are "low chance of something bad happening" but hey, I don't want to be one of the statistics....
