If you socialize your dogs to people and situations, they quickly learn what is normal behaviour from people.. If for example people don't normally just walk into your house, that they always knock and you let them in.. When someone were to come and burst thru the door at 2AM, or if someone were to crawl thru the window.. A well socialized dog, raised to be fearless, would know that this was inappropriate behaviour from people.

I believe my dogs would grab someone as they crawled thru the window. I have actually had to break into my house ( lost my keys ) and was met at the window with two very suspicious and serious looking Doberman faces... Once I spoke, they knew it was me, but they were there waiting and watching to see who the heck was coming thru the window.

They definitely would not hide under the couch wimpering.. If nothing else I believe that someone would have a hard time getting thru a window and into the house.

Don't count on it. My house has been broken into twice. My dogs will make a lot of noise if anyone comes around, but do the neighbors care? What if the bugler brought a pound of hamburger, would your dog ignore the nice treat? In my case I think it was done by my druggie grandsons friends who had been there and knew the dogs. If not, as a burglar looking over the fence at a Pitt bull, climb over that fence. I have an alarm system.

LOL. No. My dog would not. It's a common misconception about dogs that they guard houses. Most don't, unless they have been specifically trained to (which can be risky, some dogs don't have an "off" button and can't descriminate between work and not work). Most dogs guard people, not *things*. My dog might bark at someone breaking into the house and alert us, and if someone were to threaten us or act in a threatening manner toward us, they're likely to get bitten. But if someone just walked into the house while we're not here, he might bark a bit (or he might not depending on if they act confident, like they should be there), but he'd probably let them make off with whatever they wanted to. And that's alright. He's our companion, not our security system. That's not what I got him for.

They would let him in, growl and not let him out.

My dogs, in the 3 yrs that I have had them, have only growled at 1 person. This person was someone we met at a bar and were not sure if we could trust. He didn't even step into the house, and both dogs growled.

They have only done this to the 1 person. Therefore, the dogs do sense if someone is ill intentioned.

Other than that, all other strangers, they whine as they pass by,,, they like the mailman and anyone else we invite in.

But if they sense something is whack with someone, they will let us know

My dog has attacked someone for coming in our home when we were gone. He was a friend coming to let him out while we were away on business. He is a family dog and we have small children that ride him and he loves to play ball and roll around on the floor with my three year old. He gets loose and greets everyone on the block rather nicely and he lets people walk right in when we are not home. Another time he attacked our neighbor for coming in while my husband was gone. (our neighbor is a little crazy and creepy) Dogs sense your feelings toward people and they know when something is wrong with them. I have a German Shepherd/ Rotweiler mix. He is three and has never been trained to attack. It comes naturally to him though. Great dogs. I had a Pure bread Rot before and she didn't give a damn who came in and who didn't so it must be the German in him.

Yes my dog would go after someone in our house with out one of us around.

They would growl and snap at the person and more forward on them until the person backed up or left the house.

I know that at least two of mine will bite if proveked by a stranger. And no one with any brains would enter our house with the noise from the barking of the dogs anyone who had a clue would never come it. It sounds like a kennel.

I sure hope so! I have a 1 year old pit/lab mix... She barks and growls if someone is coming by our door but I don't know if she'd actually attack... I think she would sense the danger and sense that the person was an intruder. But her bark and growl are pretty intimidating so I hope that'd be enough to scare off any intruder.

I'm not sure if my 2 German Shepherd girls would attack, but they certainly would raise the roof with their barking!

The other night, one of my son's snakes got out of its aquarium, and one of the dogs tried to attack it, but I don't know if she would attack a human. They bark their heads off when the doorbell rings, though; like when the mailman or UPS are delivering packages. Yesterday, I had a woman from Verizon selling something, and they did not let up. I would really hate to think what they would do if someone actually tried to break in!

Mine would bark, growl and make you think she will take a plug from you but she never would. She dont like anyone coming in the house. She lets them know that she is protecting us so she will pin you up at the door until I tell her to quit and let them in. Then she will just jump and want attention. Now I am sure if a burgular came in the house they would just pick her up and chunk her somewhere else. She wouldnt harm ANYONE on purpose.

My dog is a Boston Terrier.

My golden and black lab would greet the burgler with loud barking and if they entered some major bites. I wouldn't want to come in without someone here if I were anyone.
