I'm getting a new laptop for Christmas and I need help narrowing down my choices.
I need a laptop that has a fair amount of battery life, is good for gaming (Portal, minecraft, Sims 3, terraria)
and is light weight.
I don't really want a netbook/notebook/whatever-you-call-them because I find it hard to type with the small keyboard.
If you have any suggestions or links that could help me that would be great!

hp pavilion dv7- it's great, haven't had a problem with it yet.
Due to the wide selection, similarities seen in marketing you may want to research Consumer Reports per model or look up at Tom's Hardware web site to get real stats on the computer.
Due to gaming, I highly suggest you consider a laptop that has a dedicated Video Adapter. The key there is "dedicated" meaning it does NOT have "shared memory" (shared memory means the video card does not have its own memory and must steal from the system ram thus often resulting in not enough resources to run more intense applications.
Due to personal preference being so broad, just get one you like, meets the hardware specs needed for the programs you will run and get a good Warranty!
*Important* Ensure the warranty can be honored on-site. Otherwise, you may be shipping your laptop across country (at your expense) for warranty repairs.
My personal fav in a portable computer is MAC / Apple. Not to spawn arguments with those loving pc's but the only reason not to go mac is only if your programs do not have a mac version available. Of course, then PC is best.
You can extend the life of your notebook (aka laptop, not netbook) computer if you purchase a high-quality cooling pad. Best to find one with double fans and an aluminum surface as this provides best heat transfer from the laptop computer.
) This HP ProBook 4530s XU015UT is an excellent computer, lending me to believe that HP puts a lot into their probook series of laptops. The touch pad is annoying, but not annoying enough to complain. And as far as the extra software, there was not a lot on it at all. And all you need is a good uninstaller (a third party one, I suggest either Revo or Advanced Uninstaller Pro). Took what I wanted off and I have no problems. This thing has so many other features as well. I would suggest not to uninstall any of the HP software, for some of them have been very helpful. Overall, this was a good solid buy, and I am very happy.
You can try buying Dell or Sony laptops. They are good in performance as well as appearance.
I personally use a Sony Vaio for games such as minecraft. I think u would like it!
