today I found my dream bike at a yard sale for $8 (it's an old schwinn). it needs a little work (it's ride-able but I plan on restoring it to look brand new) and my boyfriend is going to help me with all that, but neither of us have really painted a bike.
so, what kind of paint do you use? I want it to be shiny, possible have a little shimmer for depth (like car paint). I want it to look good, not like I got a spray can and went at it. so for a professional look what type of paint should I use?

Well if you want to do it yourself without and equipment you have to use spray paint. If you have the $ to have it sprayed - that would be best of course. Any good auto paint place should do it for $50 or so.
In either case the prep work is very important. Make sure the frame is as smooth as glass. When doing it yourself use auto paint, from an auto parts store, you'll need several cans. Buy more than you need just in case, you can always return the unused cans.
Go to a hardware store and they wil point out all the paint you need you more then likely need a primer, paint and a top coat (cant think of the name at the moment). Lowes/Homedepit will be able to tell you what will work the best and how much you need. Skip walmart and other stores like that for projects like these.
