Alcohol dehydrates you. And a hangover is nothing but a shrunken brain. When there is less water in your system, you brain is affected, so it shrinks. When it does, it pulls on the tissue that attach it to the skull, this causes the headaches. Since it a bit smaller, due to dehydration, it has more space to bounce from side to side within your skull, causing more pain.

The solution. Drink as much water as possible after you drink. The more water you drink the better. It works with me every time.

Take a milk thistle supplement in the week leading up to your night out and about 3 of them the day before you go out drinking (This gives the liver and kidneys a great boost and helps them to deal with flushing out the toxins and processing the alcohol more quickly). Try to drink some water throughout the evening as well as alcoholic drinks if you can.

When you get home, drink a pint of water/ squash / juice. Anything non-alcoholic, but water is best. Get a good nights sleep and if you still feel a little worse for wear when you wake up then take a resolve or alka-seltzer excess in a glass of water. The painkillers it contains help with the headache, it also settles your stomach and gives you a high dose of caffiene to give you a little boost! Usually this is just enough to take the edge off while you get some food inside you. Just go with whatever you crave. Have a bath too and toroughly clean your teeth and gargle mouth wash. This will have you feeling refreshed and squeaky clean in no time!

If all else fails try the hair of the dog...but remember you have to deal with the hangover at some point!

Water,Water,Water. Before you go out drinking have at least 1 pint of water. When you come home or even when you are out drink a pint of water.. During the evening drink a glass or two of water. When you wake up in the night drink a whole glass of water. You see the hangover is caused by the alcohol dehydrating the brain. If you keep your system topped up with water it will not dehydrate and you should not get a headache. If you do not manage to drink enough water before and during the drinking then be sure to drink plenty in the morning.

I make sure that every other drink after a few is water, the effects of a hangover is dehydration so by drinking more water, you can drink for longer, do not get a hangover and can even go to work the next day! that's of you wanted to!

I also have a pint of water when I get in/before I go to bed to rehydrate the body.

stick to one drink all night (the old thing never mix grape and grain springs to mind). If you're drinking beer, stick to beer.

If you can be bothered to - drink a soft drink every so often during the evening while you're drinking - most bars give tap water free.

On your way home pick up a bottle of Lucozade or water and have a burger / kebab or sandwich from one of those 24 hour Indian shops.

Once home, drink loads of water before bed.

In the morning have an Alka Seltzer XS and a shower to get yourself awake. I often find that a Pot Noodle for Breakfast and then some Chicken and Black Bean sauce and noodles from the Chinese in the evening sorts you out good and proper!

Like the above poster said, a hang-over is principally dehydration. Alcohol will dehydrate you very quickly. It's not one hundred percent assured, but drinking plenty of water before and during a heavy drinking session should go a long, long way to preventing hangovers.

Before you go to bed drink at least 2 pints of water, have a paracetamol and eat a banana - I think it's the potassium in the latter which does it.

If still no joy take a Milk Thistle tablet the morning after.

When we wereon our honeymoon in Spain many years ago and had really drunk too much champagne, the local barman recommended Ferna Branca. This has become our standard over-indulgence cure.

Now I am older and a little wiser I think you should drink lots of water along with the alcohol and never mix grape (wine) and grain (spirits).

I also find a bacon sandwich after a heavy alcohol session before going to bed helps a lot.

Before you go to bed drink one pint of cold tap water and nothing else.

The water will flush out your liver and kidneys and water down any alcohol in your bloodstream.

Givinhg you a restful night and no hangover the next day.

Never drink on an empty stomach, and always drink a bunch of water and take an asprin before going to bed. Do not take Tylenol when drinking alcohol it may cause liver damage, make sure it is regular asprin.
