I personally think that it was all blown out of proportion and he should not have to, he was humiliated enough.

Update 7:And there has been much worse in terms of prank calls so why act like this is a massive tragedy and the only reason this is one big story is because it is johnathan ross and russle brand both two great people who have massive fans and a lot of people who hate them so this sort of story attracts all sorts or readers, not only that but the actor being 78 means you get a whole load of sympathisers who have not even listened to the show moaning on behalf of him when he does not even want to complain himself he just accepted the apology.

I think this was schoolboy humour of the worst kind. Not being thick skinned I couldn't stand it when I was young, and I don't care for it now.

I don't think it was blown out of proportion at all, why should an 78 year old man be phoned up and humiliated on a 'prerecorded' radio show, i think it's unacceptable for them to say they were going to brake into his house and kiss him all over whilst he slept as an apology!

Personally, I'm gutted that Russell has resigned. The hole affair was blown out of proportion. His show was brilliant and will be sadly missed.
Yeah it WAS blown out of proportion. In fact it became completely ridiculous. I'm personally really annoyed that he resigned because his radio 2 show was amazing! (the only good thing on the radio on Saturday at that time) But... I suppose he's outgrown the BBC- after all he's all about Hollywood now and he's too rich to need the job...
But w/e I'm still annoyed.

No, it has not been blown out of proportion. Brand and Ross played an infantile "joke" on Andrew Sachs, and I don't know how making obscene suggestions to an old man, or to anyone, is in any way "comedy."

i agree, shouldnt of gone this far, there was only a few hundred complaints at first, til someone made a big deal out of it. i expect some rubbish repeat will be on friday night now.
