Glass only came about in Roman times which would definitely exclude the Old Testament. The New Testament wasn't concerned with metaphors of that nature so I guess we could put it in the realm of middle renaissance when they were trying to use Biblical reference to make a point. It basically means, If you live in a glass house and you have no weapons but stones; don't fight from the house!
Yeah. . If we have to be serious it means don't accuse people of what your are guilty of but then what? People always complain about others who have their own fault.
As far as I know they didn't have glass houses in Bible times. The expression "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." However, it has a similar meaning to what Jesus said, "Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone."
The "glass houses" proverb refers to the fact that if you are in a glass house and throw stones, you could break your own house.
The "first stone" quote from the Bible refers to the fact that everybody has sinned, so it is not necessarily a good idea to punish others when you might be just as guilty and could be subject to the same punishment.
Both quotes express the idea that acting destructively can backfire.
"Don't throw stones from glass houses"- To my knowledge it is not biblical and bears comparisson to Luke 6:41 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"
Basically the moral of both is, don't attack others when you have plenty about yourself that needs fixing.

I think it goes something like, "Don't get stoned in glass houses."
The moral of the story is that the cops can see you and will arrest you on the spot.
Thinking it is a plank and not a log.
So, biblically it means if you smoke pot, do it in a log cabin.
I don't know... now I'm even confused!
Real hungry too!
Hi HDM !
Ariana & Jess say it nicely...people should clean up their own houses before criticising others.
i much prefer the more positive saying about walking in someone elses' shoes..

they did not have glass houses in the bible
but if they did .....
it means don't kick off and not expect others to do the same
don't accuse others of what you do yourself......and expect no come back
i know double standards are common place but it was not always so......
Hi HDM
a modern interpretation of "let he who is without sin throw the first stone"
It's to do with hypocrisy, meaning that people should not criticise other people for something they're guilty of.
I.e. I could not tell someone off for smoking when I secretly do it myself.
In my opinion it means don't criticise others for things you are guilty of yourself
If you wanted the equivalent meaning in a biblical format it would be "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Self explanatory really!
