state tax paid?
How long does it typically take the state to cash a check for taxes that I would have mailed on April 14? I've never mailed a payment before and wonder how long I'll have that cushion in my checkbook.

Update:yes, I wouldn't sign a check that I couldn't cover.

If I were you, I would keep enough funds in my account till the time the check shows up in your account.
Depends upon how the state processes the checks. Some let them pile up and deposit the manually. That can take several weeks. Others process them electronically as soon as they're received. MO cashed mine 2 days after I mailed it last year. Dropped it in the mail on Monday and it processed through my bank electronically on Wednesday.
Figure that the day after you drop it in the mail, your cusion is gone. And you DO know that it is a crime to sign a check if the funds are not IN THE ACCOUNT at the time that you sign it, right??
