I don't know what settings on my washer I should use to wash this. To me it has kind of a musty like odor an I do not know what kind of material it is made out of because it does not show it. It does not even have a label. Also it is an African particularly Nigerian traditional wear made for men or young men. I do not know if it is supposed to be cotton, linen etc! Also if they are what should I do?

If unsure, wash it by itself.
You could throw in a couple of dark towels so you're not wasting a cycle by washing only one thing. If you've washed the towels a few times already, they've done all the fading they're going to do and won't darken the garment at all. And if the garment fades onto a dark towel, well, who's ever going to know?
If there's no label telling you what kind of fabric, just assume it's cotton and use your regular washing regimen like for towels and t-shirts. If it can't handle that, then exactly how much are you willing to change your washday habits for one garment?
Good luck.
I wouldn't take the chance of washing it in a machine. Just handwash using Woolite in cold water. Rinse throroughly and let dry on top of a towel that you've spread out or on a line. Don't put it in the dryer as you don't know what the material is and it could shrink. I've found woolite works for so many items and they come out great!
Good Luck!
Use the lowest setting, in cold water. I would air dry it. use little soap and little fabric softner. If you have a hand washing setting use that. If not use 'delicate'
