There is a gallon (or something like it) of motor oil outside my porch...right next to my window where my room is.
My fear is...can this be used to cause a fire or explosion? It is closed...but I am still worried.
Update:Also is motor oil black in color and gasoline from gas stations clear? This is my assumption.

Hell no. Liquid motor oil is very hard to set fire to. You need to get it hot enough to vaporize it, then ignite the vapor with an open flame. Rest easy. Did you ever notice all the bottles of motor oil in the store NOT catching on fire?
Extremely unlikely. If you are worried move it away from the house and tell your roomie where you put it.
Get assertive and tell him to move that zhit or just go passive assertive and toss it into his room.
NO Oil has a very High Flashpoint
It would be very difficult for the oil to ignite. However, if a fire was there anyway, it would add to the fire problem.
There are gallons of motor oil sold and stored at car part stores. Have you heard of them being burned down lately due to the motor oil?
It will not spontaneously autocombust.
It would likely add to an existing fire, but not make its own.
No, it couldn't run in an engine if it were flammable, because it would ignite and blow up the car.
No worries.
Mix it with a little high nitrogen fertilizer and it gets pretty exciting.
