I primarily work on a new 27" iMac, but I also have a PC on my desk that I use less frequently but that still needs to be readily available. I'd love it if I could use the PC's monitor, which sits unused most of the day, as a second monitor for the Mac without having to unplug and replug-in cables every time I need to switch.
Is there a cable that will take 2 inputs (VGA or DVI) and has one output, and allows you choose which input to use?

The KVM switch mentioned above is a fine idea
If you've got a higher-end monitor, it may already have dual inputs to which you could attach separate cables (one PC, one Mac) and switch between the two with a button on the monitor.
in case you recommend the VGA port then specific you're able to try this. top click on the laptop decide for residences and settings. the two one in each and every of your video exhibit instruments might desire to be listed interior the dropdown. click on the hit upon button to make certain that's which. click use as my popular computer screen to the only which you quite choose. Play with those settings and you will possibly desire to get the place you decide on.
That cable/device is called a KVM switch. I know my local Walmart and Staples have them, and I'm sure Best Buy and such have it.
not a cable, but there is a switch(trendnet tk-207) you can buy this at radio shack.
