Hera (aka Queen of the Olympian gods) is the representation if marriage and child-baring ( she is often depicted w/ a bridal veil and sceptor) She is also the begrudging jealous wife (and older sister) of Zeus (king of gods) due to his numerous affairs. She was also just envious in general and arrogant (she considered her-self more beautiful and superior than other goddesses) Her children (all by Zeus) are Hebe, Hephaestus, (although some stories say she gave birth to him without Zeus), Eris, Eileithyia and Enyo. Many stories accredit Hera as the mother a Heracles (Hurcules) but he in fact is one of Zeuses many children by other women (goddesses and mortals alike) In one myth Hera is asleep and wakes to find an infant Heracles nursing on her, when she threw him off her breast milk shot of into the atmosphere (this legend was used to explain the milky way and how it was created) Her symbols are a crown (being queen) the Veil, the sceptor, and the peacock: the Peacock came about when Hera asked her ally The 100 Eyed Giant to watch her faithless husband and report to her if he witnessed an infidelity. The giant having 100 eyes could always watch, even if he was sleeping (some could be closed while others still open could continue to supervise) When Zeus caught on to this he turned the giant into a peacock (turning its "eyes" into the circular feathers seen on a peacocks tail)
