My girlfriend has a very stressful job and gets fever blisters due to stress. We don't get to see each other very often due to living in different states. Is it safe to kiss when her fever blister is almost healed? How contagious is it? I don't want to catch anything.

You very likely already have the herpes virus. Click on my name and read the note I wrote to Jason G about 3 weeks ago. It's on p. seven of my anwers......It was long, and I don't know how to paste it here.
Fever blisters are the herpes virus, and yes, until the blister is healed completely, you have an 80% chance of getting the virus. It is hugely contagious!! Even if you show no symptoms, it can lay dormant in the body for long periods of time. AND!! if she gives you a BJ with a fever blister on her mouth you CAN get herpes on your genitals. The herpes virus 1 and 2 can both be on the mouth or on your genitals. Be very, very careful.
Whenever I have a fever blister, my husband has never caught anything when he has kissed me.
The kind of fever blisters she gets is not the kind to worry about - speaking from personal experience.
An almost healed fever blister is not contagious.
If it really bothers you, just kiss her on the cheek. :)
A tip on how to avoid getting fever blisters: When you first feel the tingling, apply an ice cube to the site and hold there until the site is numb. Repeat with another cube later when feeling is back at the site. Doing this prevents the fever blister from coming.
If it still comes out (especially a stress-induced one), the ice treatment you did makes it go away faster.
Unfortunatly, fever blisters are a form of herpies. If you do online research, it does state that. Its not the STD kind of herpes, but it is in the same family. And yes, its contagious.
I suppose kissing is alright and it won't spread any disease
provided both of you are 'clean' - no STD. Sorry, here in this
section, we are dealing with cases of people contracting the dreadful diseases of STD.
