Republican or Democrat, do YOU have any memory of the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration? * Anybody? * Anything?* Didn't think so!

Bottom line—We have spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency and probably not one person who reads this can remember why it was created or why it has been supported through both republican and democrat eras.
Very simply, at the time of its creation, everyone thought it very appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted on August 4, 1977 to lessen our dependence on Foreign Oil. How very efficient!!
It’s now 2009—31 years later and the budget for this necessary department:
** Is just over $24 billion a year.
** Has16,000 federal employees.
** Has approximately 100,000 contract employees.
** Are we less dependent or more dependent on foreign oil today they were were then? Look at the job it has done!!
This is where we taxpayers should slap our foreheads and say “What was I thinking?” That’s bureaucracy!!
And NOW, if we turn the Banking System, Health Care and the Auto Industry over to them,
God Help Us !!!

I'm honestly not up to speed on the Department of Energy. It is one of thousands of unecessary wallet stuffers to be sure (CIA, NSA, etc)
I tend to agree with not giving more control to the government but, unfortunately, I think as long as the average person is surviving (maybe we don't even need to be confortable anymore) we will just put our "faith" in the government that they are doing what's best for us.
I've heard rumors of a Shadow Government, Illuminati kind of conspiracy. You know what? That's a laugh. Why does there need to be an underground government when "We the People" are willing to just bend over anytime our government says "here comes the new legislature"?

Yes, lets look at healthcare. And see what happens abroad with nations that have universal healthcoverage...
FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.
FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
Sorry, but you seem to be finding yourself in the wrong country. Try your luck in a fascist dictatorship where the govt. doesn't give a crap about the regular citizens. Carter wanted to end our dependence on oil from terrorist countries in order for the USA to become energy independent by the 2000 ! He put solar collectors on the White House roof, as a symbolic example of what must be done. The very first thing Ronnie did was to have the solar panels removed ! What a JERK !
Now look at how "safe" we are because of our insane dependence on foreign oil !
We the people should bail h=ll out throw out the President Gov and let the people run there own lives.
I think that we should return to our constitutional principles and reverse the unchecked expansion of government.
