Now BP may have been lax in their precautions. And they may have been trying to get the well drilled too fast. If that's the case take them to court and make them pay damages.
Obama has said his administration has been all over this problem from the start. Now I know government hasn't got the expertise to plug the leak. But this isn't the first time there have been spills. What's going on with FEMA? And then there's the EPA? Wasn't there 'supposed' to be someone watching over the precautions taken to prevent things like this from happening? Where was the plan for if things like this do happen? Because where there are humans involved things ARE going to happen.
We've got all kinds of regulations passed by law makers that make about $175 K a year, overseen about peons that make $75 K a year. And these folks are supposed the prevent people making ten times that from bypassing the regulations? They couldn't find their butt with two hands and flashlight. Why do we think government had handle ANY big problem?

In most cases, if Govt would just stay the hell out of the way and quit tying people's hands with silly and "Politically Correct" rules, problems could be easily solved. Promote the General Welfare and Defend the Country..that is all Federal Govt needs to do
The problem is that there is no one who as, as you put it, "dealt with this issue before." A well breach of that size, that deep under water, is unprecedented. And unfortunately, because our government has for years been in the pocket of Big Oil and other corporate interests, the government has never developed significant response capability. The government doesn't have the equipment, nor does it have enough people with the needed expertise. The ugly truth is that the only entities with the means to respond to a breach like the one in the Gulf are the oil companies themselves. The most the government can really do is push them to act and then keep an eye on what they're doing.
you don't want government getting involved in private business, but the second private business messes up, you blame the government. i hate republicans. Its amazing.. If the obama administration tried to make tougher regulations against big oil, you'd be jumping down his throat, and calling him a communist. The president isn't a scientist... So the fact that he doesn't have an answer to a problem that is 5 miles beneath the oceans surface shouldn't come as a surprise.. what should come as a surprise is that companies like BP have scientists come up with ways to drill pipes into ground that is 5 miles beneath the surface of the ocean, but never came up with a back up plan... Its not the presidents fault... if there was a definitive answer to solve this problem i'm sure it would have been done, but no1 seems to know how to fix it.. blame the company that makes billions off of us, and doesnt use any of it to ensure the planets safety.
Absolutely! Government is not the solution. Government is the problem!
We have to stop hamstringing private enterprise with burdensome regulation. Government shouldn't be telling business how to run their business. The entrepreneurs know what they are doing and should be left alone to do it!
Ronald Regan was so smart. The first thing he did when inaugurated was to get Jimmy Carter's damned solar panels off the White House roof. Who needs it when we can get all the oil we need.
The next thing he did was to get rid of all those regulators. He must have saved about $10 million. Frugality was his middle name. Why can't Obama be that smart?
Regulations have been kept loose due to a single factor: oil is vital to the continuation of our civilization, and we cannot rely on imported oil due to the international political situation.
We all were taking such risk, Democrats and Republicans, because the alternative is to halt extraction and then people like you would be whining about having to pay $10/gallon at the pump.
As for digging closer to shore, you don't just dig, you have to dig where the oil is. That is basic logic. The oil happens to be, often, where deep sea lies now. The one closer to shore and on land has been exhausted already for the most part.
oil spills usually come from ships carrying the oil this is the first time that oil is spilling out of a rig so it isn't like there is an easy fix. They've been trying different ways to try and clog the hole but it is proving difficult to clog up. And it is up to BP not the government.
YES YES YES YES YES
Obama capped what they have to payout. Obama screwed the southern coastlines people.
Obama appointed a committee that sits and ponders an oil spill that they have NO IDEA of how to stop this ecological disaster. Inexperienced people are running this show.
I don't believe it was an accident that Obama gave the contract to a company that has the WORST safety record in the oil industry.
I don't believe it was an accident.
I am just amazed this thing hasn't been stopped. We're witnessing incompetence on steroids here from both sides.
Imo.. First thing that should happen once this is fixed is to Fire the head of any government agency responsible fo oversight here.
Government is incompetent and wasteful in general but in this one case BP is running a close second.
And don't get me started on the commie organizer......
Look, this problem was caused too few and too lax regulations. Anybody who thinks otherwise isn't thinking at all. What's your alternative, when all is said and done? Let industry police itself? Then they'd be doing even LESS. If somebody wasn't breathing down their neck, BP would have washed their hands of the whole situation already.
This crisis proves the progressive agenda wrong more than anything else. They'd have you believe that it proves we shouldn't drill oil, but they don't see that due to the government's handling of the situation it proves wrong their philosophy that big government is the answer to everything. Here, over-bloated government has failed us miserably. Even with all it's size and power, it's failed us. It trips over it's own d1ck at every turn, and simple solutions take 3 times longer to debate than they did to come up with.
