Although it will always have value on the commodities market. In other words it will never be worthless. You should always keep a little of it on hand, for so the Bible states that in these end times that we will not be able to buy or sell our wares, but we can still use precious metals to barter with. Therefore, silver being a cheap one, it would work just fine.
Silver will never have as great a value as gold for two reasons, first silver is more common that gold, platinum or iridium and, second, silver is an industrial metal and because there are idustrial uses for silver the metal continues to be mined in large quantities which keeps the supply relatively large.
It's all about supply and demand. For the time being, the supply of silver is likely to be greater than that of gold, becuase it is more common in the Earth's crust. But demand is always a mystery. Maybe Paris Hilton will be wearing nothing but silver jewelry in her next "home movie" and this will set off a mad silver fashion craze and drive the price through the roof.
Actually the most valuable metal is Platinum, then gold, and silver, but silver could one day become more valuable, The main factor is how much available is the substance is. Say that they found a massive quantity of gold that flooded the marke with it then Silver might become more rare thus becomeing more valuable.

Silver's abundance in relation to Gold will keep it as the cheaper of
all metals. Don't expect $800 Silver unless the US dollar becomes
worthless.
Silver falls under gold. Gold will always hold the most value.
Who knows what will happen with our failed economy now.
Some say the market will bounce back too, in a few years.
This all remains to be seen.
