Lack of food for chicks,Fear this makes hen nervous causes her to sit tight on the nest rather relaxing enough to feed. Plenty of greens for the hen to feed chick, this also may help to feed the baby. such as kale's,collards, broccoli's and rapine. If this is her 1st time shes not experienced enough yet to know whats going on.But knows her eggs need to be guarded if she feels you or her mate are interested in her eggs she may feel you are going to harm them, so she stays on the nest to protect them. She feels you want to harm her eggs.DON'T FORCE HER OFF THE NEST!! with your hands this just makes her sit longer try not to disturb a nervous hen make some noise while looking at her this will tell her you are Not hunting her babies. She may be fearful of the male whatever the FEAR the results are the same she will stay on her nest.as if her life depends on it. And wont get off till the danger has passed. If it doesn't pass Soon enough she will continute to follow her instincts which will tell her that it's become unsafe to raise her babies and that she must allow them to die and abandon the nest. After you have a good food supply and hen is familiar with it dealing with a non-feeding parent If she shares a cage with a male temporarily remove him if hes been feeding her while shes on the nest then leave him in cage with a wire divider between them this makes the hen feel secure she can still see her mate she also knows he can;t get to her nest and harm the chick. This makes her get off nest to feed either to get food herself or to have mate feed her.But when she returns to nest the THUMP of her landing on the nest edges will cause the chick to raise its head and cry or beg for food this and combined with her new feeling of security and a crop full of good food is often all it takes to convince a hen to start to feed. Its not necessary to keep apart for long the hen will welcome mates help with provideing care for babies. As long as hes been feeding her and chick is in nest when divider is removed. Some hens wont allow male to feed chicks untile they start to get feathers but will allow male to feed her then she feeds chicks. If you must do changes make sure you do this slowly this gives birds time to adapt and not a good idea while breeding or eggs are presentTo many changes destroy their sense of security and does affect their breeding and feeding
Its up to you to provide an environment in which they feel safe and comfortable enough to feel encouraged to raise chicks.
well if it is the hen's first lay of eggs she might be a little unaware of this. Maybe you should just try to feed it yourself if this keeps going on a little longer. go and check out a book from the library and see if you can find any information there Maybe she will realize that she needs to feed the little chick and the problem will be resolved. Good luck!
not rather confident for canaries, yet i be attentive to that birds many times have a gestation era between 12~30 days. additionally, make confident to not touch the eggs and the greater youthful while they're born till a minimum of the greater youthful are 3 weeks previous. do away with eggs that have not hatched after a minimum of 10 days after the 1st egg has hatched. this way you do not accidently throw away a newborn poultry (unfavourable poultry)
