What is the best way for first time authors to break into print?
What is the best publisher that takes first timers? I've done vanity presses, but I really want to be a real author. Maybe start with childrens books and work may way up. How is the market for short fiction? Is editors and predators really helpful or do some grubby moeny grabbers fall through the cracks? Just asking have a super marvelous Zipbiferous most wonderful day.

You can start with whatever you want, but getting to the writing community is like breaking into Fort Knox these days.
Write your book, register it for copyright (someone will attempt to steal it or parts of it) and start sending it to agents. Hope against hope.
