White smoke coming from your exhaust is common. It does not mean there is anything wrong with your car unless it has a sweet odor to it. That would indicate coolant getting into your combustion chamber.
What we did in the "good old days" when our car smoked a lot is we would take them out on the highway. We would run about 45 mph and them stomp it. It's what we called "blowing the carbon out".
You didn't specify the model and type of car,Whether it is Diesel/Gasoline powered?
In General the root cause for white smoke is oil burning. The engine oil is managed to get in the combustion chamber and burns there causing a white smoke. The wear and tear in piston rings and oil scrapers cause the oil seepage into the combustion chamber. You have to go for a piston ring and oil scraper change /complete overhaul of engine,to reduce the white smoke.Other wise it will gradually causing engine cease.
Coolant leak through the head gasket. After it warms up, it seals up a little due to expanding metal. Pull out the spark plugs and see if any are especially clean. This will tell you which cylinders are leaking.
like everyone said its most likely oil in the combustion chamber but since it only happens when you start it its definitely not a head gasket instead i would say its probably the valve guides have gone bad.
keep checking the antifreeze ! if it keeps going low then the head or intake gasket is leaking into the combustion chamber and going out the tailpipe !

Usually it means oil is burning. Are you gettin low on oil quickly?

LOL, it's a bumma trying to keep up with the Jones.
Columbo never had this problem.
Sounds the head gasket could have gone, or the car could be burning oil.

Does it stop blowing white ? If not ,ck your coolant level anyway, if it is low or empty it may be a blown cylinder head gasket.
