I was told the paper needed to be written in third person past tense, but this left me confused as to how to state my hypothesis. Should it be something like,
"My hypothesis was..." (first person)
or
"The hypothesis being tested was..." (third person)

The second part ("The hypothesis being tested was...") seems closer to your instruction. Basically, it seems like you should write it as a person who observed the experiment.
Yes, you are right. It should be were as: "The
hypothesis for this study is" The way you have written it is a good as the one that I wrote. Either will do. Good luck.
