YES!!! If you want to grow any of those things you need to fence the chickens out. If you wait until the plants are up and established, month old chicks won't do as much damage and will do some bug control for you, but the first time you find a peck hole in a tomato, you better get them locked up or you won't have any garden left.
You're local Food Pantry would love to get some of your tomatoes! Fresh produce is such a rarity for them. Most Food Pantries can't keep fresh produce. They have their hands full with the boxed and canned crap. But if you go first thing in the morning, they can put fresh tomatoes in the gift baskets. If you insist on keeping them all to yourself, then there are plenty of marinara recipes out there that use up a lot of tomatoes.
