My friends's dog ate about15 of her medication pills, they were like Xanax or something. I keep trying to get her to go to the vet but she insists that since they're small pills, they won't do any harm if you overdose. Can her dog get hurt or even die?
Yes, a dog can absolutely die from a drug overdose...some human meds are toxic to dogs even in small amounts...
Your friend is an idiot if she thinks 15 Xanax (for panic/anxiety) isn't harmful to her dog...although sometimes prescribed for dogs with anxiety, it's at a MUCH lower dose than humans take..the size of the pill isn't necessarily an indication it was a low dose...the human dose was probably 1 or 2 at a time, so imagine multiplying that up up to 15 (the dog won't be able to handle that)...
holy crap, that dog must be having one hell of a trip!
Yes, the dog can die.. does not matter that the pills are small.. even 15 of those is a lot for a human. Dogs metabolism processes drugs at a different rate than it does for us too.. depending on the dogs weight and the dosage of the pills can affect the odds of death.
Xanax is a sedative, and it would only take a few to kill or seriously damage a small dog. This is an emergency situation, and your friend is dead wrong.

Dog weight vs. Human weight? Common Sence. Most likely too late for your friends dog, even with a stomach pup.
Basic Pet first aide,
Cause vomiting
Then call the vet.
If your friend thinks that potency is relative to the size of a pill she should not be taking them let alone sharing them with her dog.
What an idiot.

Yes. just think. a person can overdose on those pills and animals are not supposed to take human meds.
the size of the pill is totally NOT important; the important thing is what the pill IS.
YES, the dog may die. If there is an emergency clinic in your area, CALL them! If not, check these sites for help:

Omg, PLEASE take the dog to the vet NOW or it most likely will die. That's too much for even a human to take!
Yes. She should call the vet. Or you can call, to ask on her behalf.
