I'm planning a personal build for myself at a medium budget of $600. Currently it looks like this:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
Sapphire Radeon HD 6850
Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 AM3+
8gb G*Skill Ripjaws
1 TB 7200 RPM Western Digital
Sony SATA Optiarc DVD Burner
Cooler Master 430 Elite
Cooler Master Blue LED 120mm fans x2
Cooler Master GeminII S CPU Cooler
The system is pretty low-powered but when I used the PSU tool on Newegg, it gave a 500w recommendation. However, if I get a CX500, then I'll be above budget (including rebates). I also really want to stick with Corsair as they are known for their high quality in this regard. Recently, I read reviews stating that the 12v rating on this PSU was lower than the standards that Corsair would set. I don't care how well it compares, I just want to know if it will power this rig. I also plan a slight overclock on my 955 up to at least 4.0 ghz. I don't want anyone suggesting a different PSU, just tell me if this works, if not, I'll find one on my own.
Cheers,
Sean

no no no. please do NOT go cheap on your PSU. that is the probably one of the most important parts of your computer. skimp out on mobo's, GPU's, Ram etc but do NOT skimp out on your PSU. and personally i love corsair and my build is FULL of corsair stuff but i would avoid their power supplies. get seasonic. they are pricier but MUCH better. TBH corsair has really $hity molex connectors. i mean REALLY $hity.
