my friend keeps bugging me about my spelling like putting u instead of you. does this really matter, i mean come on its aim
(The friend:) Spelling matters because it affects what everyone thinks of you. What would you rather see "did u c the soccer game yesturday?" or "Did you see the soccer game yesterday?" Also, instead of writing out letters and words, the wonderful internet lets us press a button for each. Touch your table with your thinger. How long did that take? Will pressing 1 button "u" really take THAT MUCH LONGER than pressing 3? Come on.
Update:i understand that when ur applying for a job it does matter. but im talking about just talking with friends

nah it doesnt matter, its just computer typing with friends.
Well, it really doesn't matter though those who speak the English language have been known more then recently because of cell phones and the such to lack basic vocabulary skills.
20 years from now when you're applying at a job and you go to say that everyone types "u" instead of "you" or things of the such, so it shouldn't be too important to use the proper way, you're bound to have a lack in gaining any grand job.
I don't care if people type that way. Personally though, I just don't care to read what they type for it shows a lack of putting forth that simple effort of putting 2 more letters.
It seems that the world began simplifying words, therefore the rest of the world went along with it.
In which is called a clique..
a clique being another word for simply posing.
It's found to be a bore really.
Spelling in general is very important. It shows the degree of competency of the writer. That said, because of time constraints, or to shorten a text or for whatever reasons, short forms are used. If not careful, this 'bad' habit will manifest itself when used in a formal situation.

Your pal has the awesome thought. once you maintain training damaging grammar and spelling, it particularly is going to become a lifestyle. So whilst the time comes which you do fill out an application for a job or college, and you spell, "you" with the letter "u", the place do you think of your application will finally end up? have faith me, your job application or resume tells a potential company lots approximately you. does not you particularly make a good effect, than a bad one? So sure, my pal, it does truly remember.
spelling maybe a thing of the past, but in my book I won't hire someone that types in shorthand like you would in a text message. If I see on a resume something that resembles "I wrkd 4 yrs teaching pre-k, and m now reedy 4 somting bigger". even if I see it in a YA format, as an online answer, I'll disregard it automatically as I perceive the individual typing it as ether A: lazy or B: too stupid to learn English to begin with. So to answer your question, yes spelling ALWAYS matters.
Nah, i guess it doesn't really matter,
but it IS really annoying when people use abbreviations and things like that, even i think so. so it's not so much the spelling, it's just getting annoyed that people are too lazy to type a couple extra letters.
i seriously dnt think dat the waii u speak on aim matters..
most likely the people u hve on aim u must know them n they know u to0o so the waii u write doesnt mean anything n even if it did its stupid wat cn dey saii?? n aim is the sme as texting ur suppose to shorten wrds especially if ur having a fast conversation
omg this s what i thought on day ,im like they could think
youhh dont kno how to spell but on MYSPace,FACEBOOk,tagged ,utube and lot more they sure do that alot :]
no, because its instant messenger.. shortens the word so you don't run out of space..
