EDIT: Now that I look at it, are you sure your wrote the equation right, with two equal signs? Because it doesn't make sense. With the way you wrote it "3x-2 = x" should be the same as "3x-2 = 4", which should also be the same as "x = 4", but they both give different answers for x.

3x - 2 = x
x = 1
3x - 2 = 4
x = 2
Subtract x on both sides so thats 2x-2=4
Then add two on both sides so thats
2x=6
Divide both sides by two
X=3
Ps. When ure transfering 1 constant or variable from I side of equation to another you do the opposite sign
