Why does it rain shortly after the air smells like Weetabix?
My town's right next door to the Weetabix factory but I've experienced this elsewhere, even as far as Perth in Scotland.
Update:Not an advert. :) It just smelt like it this morning and I couldn't find see anything on google.

I think it smells like wet cornflakes. Its just the rain on the pavement!
This sounds too much like an advert for me...
The smell is given off by Streptomyces bacteria, a genus belonging to the Actinomycetales order of Gram-positive eubacteria, also called actinomycetes.
The bacteria grow in damp, warm earth before fine weather dries out the soil, which then blows around as dust. During a dry spell, actinomycetes produce spores that are released on contact with moisture. Rain hitting the ground kicks up an aerosol of water and soil and you breathe in fine particles of soil containing the bacteria.
I wonder if your nose has absorbed the Weetabix smell and releases it slowly whenever it's going to rain? Any chance of a few free packets? :-)
