that is the only reason i tan. i think i look better when i tan, also it helps clear up my skin and make it smooth from sweating while being outside.

i dont think there is a "too dark" but once u get to a point where your skin is like leather from sitting outside all day i think thats enough. i personally only go tanning when i go to the beach. and thats only cause im outside.

cancer always crosses everyones minds (hopefully) everytime im outside im always keeping track of how long im out there for just to make sure im not outside for multiple hours.

some women find being orange or even getting burnt to get tan is okay. but personally i think just going to the beach for a day with the proper suntan lotion is a good way to get a natural tan

I used to lifeguard and I would be outside literally 7 days a week all day all summer. And I used to get very tan. And I loved it. Now, I have a real job and am inside Mon-Fri 9-5. I try to get to the beach on the weekends and sometimes I can't. I go tanning once a week only because I am used to being tan in the summer and I hate not being tan. I think more than once a week is excessive. And I think tanning in the winter is stupid. Everyone will know it's fake.

There are many benefits to tanning. Science has proven this, even though at times it seems the science industry seems to be completely against sun tanning.

Some of the benefits of tanning are as follows:

-Your body produces vitamin D when it's exposed to UV rays

-Increased self esteem

-increased self image

-elevated mood

-UV rays and increased melanin in your skin can fight off some forms of cancer

When you think about it, what is more natural than sun bathing? The sun is one of the most important elements that can be found in our environment. Without it, the human race would not exist.

As you alluded to, yes, the threat of cancer is very real indeed. There are however, many INCONCLUSIVE studies that point to UV rays as a cause of cancer. In addition, when tanning, moderation should be the key. It's a perfect example of something that you should not get too much of, but if you don't get enough of it, you miss out on the many benefits.

How dark is too dark, to me, is simply a matter of personal preference. Myself, I can get quite a bit darker than I usually am, but I've found a tone that I'm comfortable with, and work to maintain that, rather than trying to see how dark I can get.

What do you mean by 'unhealthy tans' ? If you mean those people who go blotchy and lobstery because they are fair skinned and have overdone it,then you have a point.

Some skins aren't meant to tan,some are.

Mediterranean skins can look a bit pasty in winter,that's why some women use sunbeds.

I look healthier when I have a tan and I feel more attractive.

Like most people i just think i look better tan. it depends on the person if they are too dark. tanning outside better than salons because it gives you a better glow.

and tanning is not really bad. you get vitamins from the sun and it can prevent you from becoming depressed. and there are many other reasons why it good for you

Lol anyway we tan because we dont ccept the pigment of our skin, i personally have problems with tanning cause i tan every day and get like the smallest tan... EVER.

Like i said girls tan to fit in/ get the beachy look, tannings blown up like ALOT since the last few years, its kinda like the hollister thing its a fad, Tanning is like a hobby for girls so :P

I wear capri pants and bermuda shorts alot since its always so hot down here in Mississippi and I feel self concious if i'm white. But since my dad is full Italian, that makes me half Italian and I tan pretty easily.

I don't go to a tanning bed or anyting. I am in band at my school and we have LONG hours of band cam when its super hot and sunny outside, so I get a really good tan.

I tan cuz i think i look better with a tan. I only go a couple times a week sometimes i dont go at all. Tanning outside always gives you a nicer tan then in salons. Yeah we think about it but not everyone who tans gets cancer.

my older sister alwys sun bathes and nothing happens. she is whiter tahn me...and i dont care about it and swim, and next thing u no, i have the darkest tan out there...and it is allll natural.

well everyone wants to be dark, and some people jsut go to the extremes to be darker than their friends. usually they end up looking like blotchy leather, but whatever its their choice.

i personally have a healthy glow, but im not too dark.

and i dont bake out in the sun for hours. i get it when im at the beach and stuff

and their gonna have a cure for cancer so people dont even worry about that
