I always hear mothers doing this like at the mall. It seems weird to me, only because I don't understand the concept of it. My sister calls her daughter "mama" and sometimes even "mamas". If you do this, explain why...and what do you call your baby/toddler son? Do you call him "papi"?

I dont know why they do that, my neice does that with her daughters. Ya... I think it is stupid. I call my sons by their names. I might slip in a Baby or Sweetpea, but never mama or I have heard mommy too. Weird.
I have however noticed that it is usually done by younger moms. Under about 23 or so.
A little girl i know her name is her nickname is "mamas) they call her that because she act like a little lady sometimes. i know lots of spanish people who call their children mami and papi just becuase it simply means girl or boy. to me mama and mami are similar but different in ways, also people just have thier resons. my nephews nickname is butt-butt, why do we call him that? just because its fun and original where we live. once came across these fraternal twins in the hair salon and the mom called them mami and papi, sometimes you just dont want to call them by the given name, i think nick names like that are more fun when they are chilrdren and eventually they grow out of it
HOPE I HELPED! or at least answered accordingly
I call my four year old mama, chica or princesa because it is a habit that developed soon after she began walking & talking plus it is a part of her heritage.
Mother that Loves her Lil mama..Like it or Love it!
There's a lady at my grocery store that says "hi mami" every time she sees my infant daughter. She's of Spanish decent...I think it can be a cultural thing?
I have heard that. I call my son boogie. I'm not sure why, I started calling him that a few weeks old.
At long as its not your child let them call their kids what they want.
