I am on the South Beach diet and I have just finished phase 1. In phase 1 I lost about 10 lbs. I am now one week into phase 2 (going into week 4 of the diet overall) and I have lost another 3.5lbs. I eat over 1200 calories of good food. no starch, fat, or sugar. I do not work out. I stay very hydrated. I drink about 2.5liters of water a day. I have been noticing the scale going down but I dont want to get my hopes up and all of this just be water weight. How would I even know the difference?
FYI I am not obese, or morbidly obese. So I am not going from 300 to 287. I mean from 170 to 157.

Unless you were retaining water at the start, losing more than 3 pounds of water weight would leave you noticeably thirsty and dry. You've probably lost about 2 pounds of water weight at most.
