I am from Michigan and I DO NOT want to go to school in-state so I'm looking for schools that are not too far from home. I was wondering what you thought of the campus like the student life, how walkable and safe the campus is, the beauty of it, and any other information you have.
Also if you don't like the universities campus could you give suggestions to other colleges in the state that you do like the campus of?
Thank you :]

UIUC is full of rich Chicago kids who have had everything in life handed to them. If you're rich, can get drunk every night and graduate, and want to work in Chicago, then UIUC might be a good choice.
I don't blame you for wanting to leave Michigan. Go far, far away.
The University of Illinois and Illinois State University are both well respected. The campuses are about an hour away from each other. U. of I tends to be a bit of a jock school though. It's a bit larger too. ISU was originally a teachers college with a more wholesome image. Frats were frowned upon there, and were actually banned until the 1970s. ISU has skyscraper dorms with the 28 or 29 story Watterson Towers and 18 story Hewitt-Manchester . Both ISU and U of I have excellent academic reputations, so your choice might depend on your major. U. of I was actually an extension campus of ISU in the 1860s when it was being set up as a land grant college. ISU was founded in 1857. I chose ISU because I liked the campus environment better and the fact that it was not known as a "jock" school. Visit both campuses to see what you prefer.
Note: U of I Chicago campus is not at all like U. of I or ISU campuses. Personally I would avoid Chicago due to the higher cost of living and less attractive campus environment.
