i have a T/C muzzleloader RENEGADE .54cal, i would like to get some info on what other's shoot with it. i am currently using .54cal ball 250grain with 100grain of FFG balckpowder.
does anyone know the effective range and tips on shooting this muzzleloader?

I use patched .530 Swaged round balls in my .54 caliber Renegade, and usually use 110 grains of FFg blackpowder and Remington #11 caps to ignite it.
I strongly recommend the use of Bore Butter with your front-stuffer. It makes repeat shots easier and it prevents rust when properly applied before end of season storage.
Even with a big powder charge, your bullet is not going that fast and a big chunk of lead is going to shed velocity pretty fast. You might feel confident stretching the range another 25 yards of so, but i keep my game shots at 100 yards and less. I restrict my 200 and 300 yard + shooting limited to paper targets or other inanimate objects.
BTW, I am a great fan of the T/C Renegade, and I consider the .54 caliber to be the best compromise between really large caliber and higher velocities of the smaller bores.
