The lions said their backup plans were to sign Curry if contract negotiations with Stafford stall, and its been two days (and one day before the draft now) since it was announced that the Lions are negotiating with Stafford. Is it safe to say that the Lions moved on to Curry to negotiate with to get the #1 pick signed before the draft?

well if they dont pick up stafford today they will move on because he is trying to get a bigger deal then what matt ryan had he wants to go i think 35 mil garnteed but they dont want it that high
Don't expect an announcement on the Lions signing Stafford too early.
The NFL, because of the ever increasing popularity of the TV coverage of the draft, wants the next 2 days to be real spectacles and early signings do nothing to help in that department. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the deal was already done but not being released to the media.
To me this is silly but Roger Godell runs the league now and this is his showcase and he's going to limit pre-draft signings as much as possible. Just go back to last year, after Miami signed Jake Long. The commissioner expressly forbade the Rams, with the 2nd pick overall, from negotiating with Chris Long prior to the draft for fear that a trickle down effect would occur and the draft's first round could be 1/4 to 1/2 in the bag before the TV cameras were ever turned on.
for all their past draft blunders, the lions made a really savvy move wrapping up negotiations with curry. they have all the leverage now, and the pressure is on stafford. if they don't get a deal done before tomorrow detroit will very likely move on curry just to avoid a jamarcus russell hold-out debacle. if he isn't taken with the first pick, stafford may plummet all the way to 5, or even out of the top 10 completely. that's a huge cut in pay going that low. he certainly knows this and is probably just as anxious to get the deal done to get the big payday. nice move by the lions, for once.
NO WAY!! Stafford worked MIRACLES last year with Detroit and is now a top 10 possibly 5 QB. and he is young with his game only going up. The guy already knows the offense bringing in Manning would mess up what they got going in Detroit. And the Lions offensive line can have some big collapses at times and having Manning with his neck getting banged around can hurt him and possibly end his career and can hurt the Lions in the long run.
LOL
There is over a 150% chance that the Lions WILL take Stafford. He doesn't have much say in it since the Lions have the first pick. They have him locked up so theres no point in rushing a contract offer right now.
I think they should draft Stafford and let him sit behind Culpepper for a year or two, but if they want to save money they should draft Curry. He could be a solid player, and with him and Ernie Sims the Lions defense could be changing for the better.
Stay Cool
The lions are retarded is they don't take Stafford. You gotta get your franchise QB.
