You HAVE the copyright to YOUR song - you don't have to "get" it, you already have it. If you want to PROVE you own the copyright:-
The easiest way to protect your copyright is to send yourself a copy of your material by recorded delivery. Remembering to do the following:
Put a note inside of when and where the material was recorded, a list of performers on the recording, and the names of writers of the song. Include their addresses.
Make sure that you write the name of the song on the outside of the package.
Get the post office to date stamp across the seal.
Don't open the package when it arrives, just put it somewhere safe.
You don't necessarily need a recording, a manuscript of the music and a lyric sheet will do.
Copyright usually exists for 70 years after the death of the writer.
Hi there, one quick way of copyrighting written material or Schematics is to place in in a sealed envelope and post it to yourself recorded delivery. This way you can prove that the material existed at the date of postage. This is not fullproof but a very common starting point! You can also register at various websites, one of which is http://www.dulyregistered.co.uk,/ however there are many more out there and they will all charge you!

Copyright exists from the moment you write it down.
Its just a case of proving (should you have too) that you wrote it at a specific time. In the uk there is no current body for copyrighting.
So you have to send a copy of the work to yourself recorded delivery and do not open it.
OR
Leave it with your solicitor again in an unopened envelope - dated.

The most intimate lyrics are probably by Damien Rice Just listen to Cross-Eyed Bear and The Professor and you'll know what I mean. Sad lyrics though.
