Somber 123 is right.. self-imposed brainwashing IS possible. However, with Islam, you really don't have to do that :) I didn't want to believe in Islam at all (why would I?? It's the religion of the terrorists! jp), but I used my reason and arrived at the conclusion that Islam is the Truth.
I think you are Muslim, right? :) I'd just like to share this verse with you:
[3:103] You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided. Recall GOD's blessings upon you - you used to be enemies and He reconciled your hearts. By His grace, you became brethren. You were at the brink of a pit of fire, and He saved you therefrom. GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may be guided.
No, one cannot force themselves to believe something. They can go through the motions, and deny their own disbelief, but it isn't the same as believing in something.
However, you can pray for guidance, and both remain hopeful and steadfast in asking until you receive it. You can go out and seek the answers to the questions you have, and keep on looking until you are sure you've found the truth. You can talk to those who have been through the same thing, ask them for advice, share what you are feeling. And again, you really can and should not be afraid to talk to Allah about what bothers you, and what you need help with.
You can't force yourself, but that does not mean there are not better ways out there.
["Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects Taghut (evil) and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trust worthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. " (Qur'an 2:256)]
Also I couldnt find the verse offhand, but Allah also says there will be those that read the Quran but its like they are closed minded and black hearted, no matter what you show them, they wont accept..
Never try to force yourself to believe something you dont.. Either you do or you dont.. thats not to say that at some point, something would click in your mind and then you will be enlightened and understand..
I say pray about it.. and ask God to give you a sign and to be open minded to read the Quran and at some point if your heart is open, there ill be a verse that speaks directly to you..
I think it is possible to deny the certainty of God's message in spite of the overwhelming verifiable evidence supporting it. That unfortunately is part of the human condition. The only way to overcome this irrational position is to dive deeper into the subject and verify everything for yourself and take the blind belief out of the equation altogether.
You can't make yourself believe in something that you just don't. You either believe, or you don't. It would be like me trying to make myself believe that vampires were real, or that Santa Claus is real. No matter how much I may want them to be, and want to believe, I just don't.
I cannot say force, because having faith has nothing to do with force but you can talk yourself into just about anything. If you think about something long enough, talk about it long enough, next thing you know you are knee deep in it. Just look at Joseph. He is needy so he falls in love with any grl who talks to him.
by your questions and your answers to me you sound like you are drifting away from Islam slowely I noticed this since one of the first questions I saw you post..
If you are misunderstanding the Quran, like you said how can the sky be raised up since its every were in one of your answers. Go look up what you are misunderstand dont let little mistakes of yours lead you away from it.
No. If you are truly in that state where you "want" to believe but can't bring yourself to believe because reason tells you otherwise, then you are denying your own conscience and fighting against reason itself. To deny reason is neither right nor sane. You must then examine yourself to determine why you "want" to believe that which is contrary to reason.

" a forced belief is no belief"
you have to truly believe in something.
if you dont, then what is the point.
