I have a Dean Playmate Evo J and it's worth $90 to $100 new. I've had it for two years and I've been playing guitar for three years. I've improved a lot and now I'm wondering if I should get a new guitar, particularly one that is more expensive. I suppose it's because I've had the pickups fall in twice (granted I dropped the guitar more than once) and now some screws from the input jack have fallen off, and I'm thinking that maybe more money is going to mean better quality...am I right?
Also please sudgest what guitar you guys think I should buy to maximize quality and not spend too much money.

Yes, expensive guitars are better, and if they weren't nobody would buy them. The differences in an expensive guitar as compared to a cheap guitar are the parts and the craftsmanship. As you get into better guitars or more expensive guitars, they require less maintenance, wear better, work better, the action gets lower, the tuning is easier, and they are far more reliable.
Somebody suggested getting used guitars and thats a good idea if you know what you are looking at or buying. I own more than double the amount of guitars the other guy has and you really need to know how to look over a guitar before buying it no matter if its on craigs list or ebay.
Your pickups falling into the guitar is odd. They are held in by 2 screws on both sides and thats really an installation issue, not a quality issue unless something is stripped. Input jacks fall off all the time, and that happens on some expensive guitars as well. Making sure they are on securely is part of regular maintenance.
You can get a ton of good guitars between the price range of $450 and $1,000 new, or $250-$750 used. I know plenty of guitars to recommend but I have no idea how you play, your style, your tastes, likes, etc.
Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. Get a USED guitar in good condition and get more for your money. Take someone with you who really knows guitars and play them yourself too to see if they are right for YOUR hands.
