I want to write a song, but I really don't know how to go about it?
I love music with a passion. Music isn't JUST music to me, it's like an escape. It's kind of hard to explain how music makes me feel, but it's everything to me. I play the piano and I want to eventually become a musician/singer/songwriter. I would really love to start writing songs, but I have no idea how to get started! I've always been good at writing, but whenever I start to write down some lines for a song, they just suck. Should I figure out the melody first and then the lyrics, or vice versa? I could really use some tips and advice! Preferably from people who have written songs and actually know what they are talking about! Thanks so much!

Okay, back to the topic. It depends on different people, for me, once the music comes, i feel what the piece is trying to convey, and i use words to describe what the music tells me to. It's really hard to imagine it, but maybe you'll get it when you try it yourself. The feeling of rushing emotions must hit you before you churn out beautiful lyrics. Good Luck!
I have music in my BLOOD I can sing fairly well and I play 7 instruments. I just have naturally with music I always find it easyest to write like this.
Write a song when you are in an emotion like crying so hard you can't breathe or so on top of the world you could fly. SO say you just got asked out, thats the topic DATING think of all the words that you think about when you hear that word. Write it ALL down DO NOT throw away ANYTHING! So you got all the words make senteces. Now think of a beat then make the last words ryhme get a catchy chorous and you have a song! I hope I helped
i know what youre talking about i get stuck writing songs too but the best way to write a song is when you feel passionate about what youre writing about hope this makes sense but finding out the melody first helps a bit
I write songs all the time here is one its so easy just sing what you are feeling here is part of on a wrote up to the end of the first chourus......... I try to make us better, and i try to make you happy but you dont understand that im not in your hands no more, we were fine untill you left me you left with all our stuff and you even took my heart with you and now CHOURUS im lost, in a blake world you took my heart far and i cant find it, but no matter what dont give it away i gave it to you for a purpose and that wasent to see it fade........ you like? lol
how i started was to use a tune i knew and put my own lyrics to it.,
later came the major and minor cord structures.
decide whether your song is happy or sad. , this will deteremine the cords to be used (minors for sad )
write what you feel and add cords as you feel
