It claims that I owe them £55, from my 3g mobile account. I was very unsure about this as I have been with 3g for the last 5 years and have heard nothing of this outstanding balance as i always pay by direct debit every month. I just called LOWELL and the gentleman told be the outstanding balance is from 24 May 2006. I've heard nothing from 3g about this and am slightly miffed that they never even wrote to me- and 2 1/2 years later have passed it over to a debt collecter.
Where do I stand on this? Lowell have told me I now have bad credit against my name- but i'm obviously peed because 3g have never said anything to me. Can a company still claim a debt 2 1/2 years later? I hope this makes sense, any help or advice on this would be great, Many thanks.

First of all, check your bank statements. Check to see if the direct debit was actually paid for that month or not.
If it was, then rake 3G over the coals, if it wasn't for some reason, then request why they didn't raise the matter 2 1/2 years ago when the payment was missed, and demand that they deal with the matter directly rather than through a debt collector and thereby damaging your credit rating.
It really is MOST unreasonable behaviour.
3G is an appalling company; you need to tell Lowell that they have never advised you of this debt and that they therefore are obliged to erase your bad credit rating and to provide evidence that this amount is actually due. If they cannot, tell them you want compensation from 3G for distress and inconvenience; and evidence that they have arranged for the bad credit rating to be erased. Dont be "slightly miffed" kick up a stink and write complaint letters
Something happened to me like that. They should prove to you that you were notified of this outstanding balance and tell them you didn't relieve anything. Have them contact collection and remove it from there and correct your credit report and pay directly to them.
Happened to me, I signed up for a credit card that had a 60$ annual fee....i waited and waited and no credit card. All I got was a OVER DUE letter regarding my card! What.
SO I got the credit card company to remove everything as I never received the card in the first place. Just don't give up!
yeah they can claim it from you....i would suggest that you contact 3g themselves and ask them if they have any record of this unpaid debt on their system, and have them send you out a bill/statement around the time that LOWELL are claiming you them moeny for, if it is genuine then 3g would have been in touch with you around the time the bill was due, if it wasnt paid lets face it, you wouldnt still be with them because they would have had you disconnected, so you need to contact 3g and see what they say, you basically want proof that its YOUR debt, and you are entitled to that if they want money from you, i hope this helps, good luck and maybe keep us posted
Call your 3g account provider and ask them why they turned the account over to a collection agency. If you can clear the account thru them you can ask them to remove the bad credit rating.
I think the best thing you can do is speak to 3g and ask them where the debt came from, and then speak to the Citizens advice bureau and find out where you stand.
