Hi i am taking my first private class tomorrow with a student. she is intermediate level and the class is for two hours any tips or advice would be REALLY appreciated.
You need to do some kind of level check activity with her to find out her weak areas. Also get her to speak about herself and ask you questions too (question formation is sometimes a problem for this level). Make a note of what she is interested in so that you can incorporate these into your lesson themes to maintain interest.
My spouse did this. The Tefl route turned right into a month, an exceedingly busy month. She went on to coach in Africa for 2.5 years and Russia for a million.25 years and loved each memory of it. The postings were accomplished via VSO.
you don't state how old you student is. try and play games and sing songs if your student is young. If they are a teenager then try and find common ground to talk about or interests that they might have and work from there. be prepared and i would also advise that you test them thoroughly on your first meeting so that you see exactly areas they need to work on
