Help with a council flat?
Hi, my mum and dad split up time ago and me and my dad have to move from our house and are probably going to be put in a flat owned by the council sometime soon and my dad, being a bloke obviously isnt the tidest or most houseproud person and i would like to make our flat nice and homely, but i would like to know how nice i can make it look? I have heard you arent allowed to decorate it to a certain extent? and i want t o carpet and paint it obviously would this be allowed? and if so could it be nice on a budget? thanks any help is welcome

I'd check this for sure - if you're already living somewhere else, and aren't about to be made homeless, the council won't generally consider you an urgent case, and you won't get a council flat.
The amount you can do to a council flat will be detailed in the lease. Generally they won't mind you making improvements, but if you (eg) wanted to paint a room black I'd imagine they'd not be too happy.
Look at joining your local Freegle group - you can get stuff for free (they're free reuse groups) from other local people, so you might be able to get rugs, furniture etc there
