Growing up, we had a toy poodle. He was nice for about a year. After that, his behavioral issues came through. He would wag excitedly and come up to people, only to bite them when they started petting him. He bit many people through the skin (including family members other than my older sister), bared his teeth regulary (especially at night), and urinated everywhere, regardless of training.
I honestly believe that he was mentally ill and that there was little to do to help him (this was 25 years ago).
Have you ever had an abnormally difficult pet?
Update:Bill--I'm definitely not talking about a "rumbling" cat. Our cat likes to kitty-smack us once in a while or give little bites after being pet for a while. I don't consider him unfriendly or mean. He just needs attention sometimes, but not too much. When happy, which is fairly often too, he is one of the loudest purrers I have ever heard.

yup... we got a bassethound puppy and for the first few months he was really really awsome.. but then when my sister bent down to give him a kiss, he almost bit her nose off. she had to have surgery to get her nose fixed. and then when i went to pet him, he bit my arm and i have a really bad scar. so we had to put him asleep...the only person that he never tried to bite was my dad.
Kind of a loaded question. My cat likes to "rumble" if you know what I mean and when I am indulging him, he is biting my hand, etc. It's just part of his play instinct. Fifteen minutes later he's purring away.
My sister had a cat that was mentally ill. It's mother abandoned it in a laundry room at an apartment she was living in, she took it in and fed it with a medicine dropper. The cat turned into this fat, orange tabby with a major attitude problem. My sister was the only one who could pet it for any length of time, and he would turn on you in a heartbeat. One minute you were petting him and he was purring, next minute you are wiping blood from where he scratched you. He ended up living almost 15 years.
we had a white rabbit. she was mean to everbody in different ways and it was always biting my baby cousins till theyd bleed, and to my sister the rabbit would pee on her clothes and to me it would bite my hands! i have a scar on my right thumb from that stupid animal. we got rid of it by throwing it out on the streets i hope a car hit it!
I have a dog that is truly a *****.
She is obnoxious, screams at you if you don't feed her what she wants, and my Aunt thinks she's been raped, because if you touch her on her neck/shoulders, she'll snap at you.
I don't think there is anything wrong with her mentally. I think she's just mean.
