Dont listen to this "habansen-crap"
thats not even a German word.
anyways just say "welcome" which she'll be able to understand since the German word for it is "willkommen"
Then as others before said to congratulate her to her Birthday you could say "Alles Gute zum Geburtstag" but you would be just fine with saying Happy Birthday because this is a common saying in Germany too and any toddler would know what that means. So you'll be seriously fine with welcoming her in English as well as congratulating her in English too.
But if you feel like saying something in German u should use www.leo.org because this online dictionary has a sound function too. So u could look for the sentence u wish to say then you'll get the German translation and have the option to click on the speaker phone-icon next to the word and you will hear a voice saying the word so you know how to pronounciate it too.
Hope that helps
Btw dont get her a frame or something for her arrival. I think something local would be so much better. Like those little things you can get from Walmart (e.g. Shotglass with the Stateflag and/or Statesymbol on it or a baseballcap with the local Univerity or Pro Team on it, maybe even a little american flag) She'll love it
When she arrives, tell her: willkommen (welcome)
as to her birthday: alles gute zum Geburtstag (happy birthday).
If you want to buy her a small present, choose something what remembers her stay with you, maybe a nice picture frame with a picture of you or/and your family. I dont know where you live, if it is a bigger place, i am sure you will find some book about it in your bookstore.
Willkommen, alles gute zum Geburtstag!
Give her something she may need something useful but nice..a little make up bag... she can put things in it. Or a nice towel for a bath...with a nice scene on it.. they are cheap.. a beach towel will do as a bath towel.. she may not have brought one and if it got a picture of animals or some palms on it she feels it's hers personally... and when you give her the gife even if it's flowers or chocolate...
Hier dies ist ein kleines Geschenk Fur Dich zum Geburtstag!!
xxxxyou say ''Du'' if she is your age'' don't call her ''Sie'' that is for older people....but Germans do speak enough English and she has got to learn.... in Germany one does not get enough chance to speak proper English if one goes to High school only... you need to go to college to be able to communicate in English... The German system is not very good at High school to teach kids English so they don't know enough..she will be wishing to learn English but it's nice to welcome her in German and to wish her Happy Birthday in German '' Alles Gute zum Geburtstag'' and they don't throw anything on the floor ... they are just joksters!!! xxx
I had a german exchange student and he knew english just fine.
If you feel the need to welcome her in german say something like:
Hallo, willkommen! If you don't know any german I wouldn't say anything else as to avoid conversation in german.
For her birthday:
Zum geburtstag viel gluck. or alles gute zum geburtstag. or Herlichzen Gluckwunsch zum geburtstag.
Hello! = Hallo
Happy Birthday! = Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
How are you? = Wie geht es Ihnen?
How old are you today? = Sind Sie heute wie alt?
What presents did you get? = Welche Geschenke erhielten Sie?
Are you having a good day? = Werden Ihnen ein guter Tag gehabt?
I don't speak much german but am i doing well? = Ich spreche nicht viel Deutsches, aber bin ich gut tuend?
Can you speak english and if so it would make life alot easier if you could please do so??? = Können Sie Englisch sprechen und wenn so es das Leben viel einfacher bilden würde, wenn Sie gefallen konnten so???
Ich hoffe, daà dieses!! hilft! Viel Glueck!
I hope this helps!!! Good Luck!
