Short answer is you have if either of the two insurance companies you've been with say so.
Personally I doubt it because you need a full year with one company normally but as always with insurance company questions on here it's them you need to speak to to get the actual correct answer.
You will only have a years no claim bonus if you completed a whole year with one company. You cannot just "say" you have 1 years ncb, all insurers ask to see the proof - the proof is the renewal notice from the insurer you spent the last year with, it shows on it what ncb has been earned. You usually have 2 weeks to send them this proof, failing the proof they immediately cancel the policy.
Unfortunately if you spent 10 months with one insurer and 8 with another you have not earned an ncb from either.
It does not matter who you had insurance with for the past year only that you were insured. Staying with the same company with no filied claims might get you a safe driver driver bonus. As to being a loyal customer, it is up to them. There are no laws, yet, which require you to be insured by the same company for a calender period.
The insurance companies would love that. "Oh yeah we will write you a policy and because of a stupid law, you have to stay will us and can not get insurance anywhere else".
You only get a years NCB for having the same policy run one year
Proof of no claims bonus id by a renewal letter which states that or by a written confirmation from an insurer.
If neither of your policies ran for the full 12 months then you haven't got a NCB at all
No it needs to be a complete year with one company.
The clue is in the word BONUS it's a reward for staying with that company for the full term of your contract and not making a claim during that time.
It has to be a complete year's continuous insurance with a single insurer. If you switch insurer part way through the year, or break your cover with a period of being uninsured, you do not get a year's no claims discount for that year.
you need to be able to show proof of time9s) of insurance. write to both companies asking for proof of no claim and duration of insurance.
with this any new company can see and check details. odds are a years no claim will then be allowed as 'new business'.
if you haven't had any claims, you have no claims no matter how many co's you have had. they will see you have no claims when they run a check on you.
