I have a 1985 Mercuy Cougar LS, V8 5 litre engine. It all of a sudden started to run sluggish as if its not getting enough fuel or possibly missing. I have checked the sparkplugs and they are fine. Im considering that it may be fuel that I put in it or possibly the sparkplug wires, vaccum hose or fuel filter...any suggestions?
Update:also....exactly what kind of change in sound would i be looking for if it already sounds like its missing?

something that old could be anything, after tune-up or knowing tune-up is ok, I'd check clogged exhaust (cat convertor, if you still have one) or even timing chain skip, check engine light will point you in right direction, a miss is a noticable skip in engine, means one or more cylinders are not working usually evedent even at idle...those old efi systems had alot of T.P.S. failures..(throttle position sensor)
I would first check for stale fuel, and then, with the engine running, pull out each sparkplug wire individually and listen for changes in the engine sound. If when you pull one out it doesn't change the sound that cylinder is missing. Is it does it have a carburetor? It could be air/fuel mixture. Good luck
Are you SURE the timing chain was installed correctly??? Go to Auto Zone and have an FREE engine scan done. This will lead you in the right direction. Check your PCV hoses for signs of hose rot. Check ALL vacuums on engine. Power wash engine bay to get a better look around. Good luck!!
