Typically if you brush at a medium speed, and your gums bleed then it's a sign you may have gingivitis. So brushing at the gums less furiously would be recommended, and to do it daily or after eating would be even better so the gums won't swell, and bleed as easily.(inflammation due to constant contact with food) However LOTS of American have this simple problem so don't be too concerned. (still, brush, and floss more!)
It doesn't always mean gum disease. I have healthy gums and experience bleeding almost every time I brush and floss. It is common to see a little bit of pink when you spit in the sink, but not if you are spitting out more than half a teaspoon of blood. You could get an ultra soft or extra soft toothbrush if you have a tendency to brush hard, which is what I use and have really liked, or you could just go easier when you brush. Talk to your dentist if you think you might have gum disease, they would be able to treat it.
It's normal for your gums to bleed when you're brushing your teeth.. The only reason you'd need to worry about gum bleeding is if it happens without being provoked.
Not nessecarily. You probobly need to floss more. Get a new toothbrush (Soft), and DONT use toothpaste with "lots" of ingredients. Just use plain regular colgate, or even colgate for kids. Alot of the "new" and "improved toothpaste have a lot of things in them that can irritate your gums, ecspecially those with whitening. I had the same problem, and was using colgate total toothpaste, my dentist said to swith to a plain toothpaste or even a kids and make sure you floss. My gums to longer do that. GOOD LUCK!!

You could be brushing too hard, but only your dentist would know for sure.
