i'm not sure...since you have to properly recreate the original intention of the speech. of course this is all opinion and normally i would reserve my opinion until i saw you do the speech, but i feel like you could find something better. i enjoy when people think outside the box, but i have also been in the situation where i think outside the box, work exhaustively on something outside the box, in order to make it work in the environment i want it in, and then forcing myself to realize it's just not going to work no matter what i do to it and having to stress out and find a replacement.
after revisiting the lyrics, i would suggest investigating others. maybe keep this one with you and work on it but i'm not sure people will take you or the piece seriously. but either way, good luck.
In my mid 60's now; Freddie and I pretty much grew up together, and Queen was definitely an ICON group in the genre,,,still is.
Sadly the piece was almost a self fulfilling prophecy, and in context, a pretty dark piece.
Would it be so much a stretch to ask the teacher before presenting it? Obviously as a teacher the job is also to council, mentor, etc.
"The speaker should convey the message in a sincere, honest and realistic attempt to recreate the spirit of the original presentation. Although the style of delivery chosen by the speaker should be judged in light of the purpose of the speech, artificiality is to be discredited. The message should conveyed credibly and convincingly as if the words were the speaker’s own. This event is an interpretation, not an impersonation."
Therefore, the purpose of the category is not to give an impersonation of the original speaker; it is to interpret their words in an interesting and convincing manner that fits the individual competitor. The competitor is only required to recreate the general "feel" of the original delivery, not mimic it."
If it was me, I might choose another, but certainly there is no doubt regarding the drama, impact, effect and eventual resolution of that piece of work.
bohemian rhapsody is seen as a milestone in the music world. some say it is genius. i would think very very carefully about using it for any purpose, those that are traditionally familiar with the piece 40-50 year olds already have a specific way of thinking about that song because it invokes specific memories to them. -blurey
