I would love to buy a "proper" fully boned, lace up back corset. I love the way they look and well, just everything about them!!
only problem is I'm not really sure how they work, size wise. I am a size 20, so approx 40" waist and know i should buy one smaller than my natural waist, but how small?
Any help appreciated!!

I absolutely love corsets. For your size buy 6 inches smaller than your natural waist, ie 34 inches.
Remember to wear the corset in when you get it (this is very important)
If I could suggest a shop. I have no affiliation and don't own any of their corsets, but I have heard some good reviews. They look well made from the pictures and are at an excellent price.

The only thing I would be wary of is that quite a few have no front busk, while this makes the corsets stronger and fit better, it can make them a lot harder to put on; ie you have to have laces long enough to pull up over the hips (like a skirt) or it has to be laced on each time. This can be very awkward; especially if you are putting it on yourself.

The first two are links to general corset websites with links to corset makers. They all make real corsets, so they are not the cheap bustier style. Have a browse send out a few emails and best of luck.
hey
im the same size as u, and i got one in my actual measurements and is was still too small so maybe u might have to get a size bigger
i would go just one smaller and try it, just cause they can be made extremly tight and u do wanna be able to breathe
