I'm an adult with ADHD. Although not formerly diagnosed by a professional I show all the typical symptoms. I've known something has been up with me for quite sometime due to my short attention span & lack of concentration.
I thought that I'd be able to just work through it and go about my life but it's starting to effect my job performance at the current company I work for. I've been called into the office over simple mistakes I've made and it's really annoying my boss. I don't know what to do about this. Can anyone give me some advice?

I just asked the same question (two different boards) not too long ago. If you look at my profile you will see them. I got some pretty good answers they might help you out!!!!
GOOD LUCK MAN! I don't really know what to say. I know that at my job my manager made up this checklist of everything that we have to do for the night (she made it after "someone" aka ME was forgetting to do all the things that had to be done) She is a doll, she is always willing to work with me and all the stupid mistakes I make. TRY and find someone at the workplace who has some sympathy for you and is willing to help you out.
MAYBE you should try and make the same kind of thing. I just highlight off all the things that I got done and then I know what else needs doing. Usually I write in times when I'm gonna do each thing. You should leave space for that and any other notes you might wanna add. If you do things at specific times each day, you can even put it on the checklist to begin with.
GOOD LUCK MAN! You can beat those annoying things that ADHD comes with. P.S. read some books on ADHD too... (as best as you can, lol) Most of the books out there are pretty good and you don't have to read straight though you can just jump in wherever and find good info. They got good tips in them, the trouble is incorporating them into your life without someone making you do it :P
O.k. first off, im 30 somthing and have ADD....
I would say bite the bullet and try taking a stimulant prescribed by your doctor if you haven't already, it's the single most powerful way to "undo" their ADD and help them focus. (for most people)
Then there are other strategies....depending on your work....sometimes u might need to come in early and work when noone else is there so no distraction....if you feel you can't focus, maybe swtich between tasks quickly alternating between 3 or 4 tasks...that way your less likely to get unfocused and goof up or be unproductive....
but in my opinion Ritalin SR and Adderall are two of the better ADD drugs to use....go to your doctor about it. Evan a general practitioner may prescribe these drugs but its up to their own discretion....some will refer. I had already done alot of testing in the past, so my doctor just took my word for it and wrote me a scrip...they're pretty good at sizing a patient up. It would of course be good for you to be tested, however.
Before you start, become familar with all the negative effects of the drugs, there are some certainly...there is a number of problems you should learn about first.
Chances are you've self-treated with caffeine (if it works -- I know it makes some people sleepy) and workaround strategies (rituals, lists, Post-It notes, etc) to stay organized, and it's just not enough. That means it's time to talk to your doctor. It's still good to work on strategies to stay on top of everything, but it will continue to be an uphill battle. Medication can make a huge positive difference.
If you want to do something naturally, laying off coffee and foods with high amounts of sugar can help. Also, kava kava tea is a herbal tea which can help relax and focus you. If you don't care about using medication, tell your doctor and he'll more then likely proscribe ritalin.
i am copying and pasting something i told a kid. but this advice goes for you too
you know, those are all symptoms of ADHD
here are my instructions for you
1) tell mom and dad you think you have ADHD. if they dont believe you then tell a school counselor, principal, or teacher who you have faith in.
2) get to the doctor ASAP and say "Doc, I think I have ADHD" then tell the doc all of your symptoms
3) if you get medication then TAKE IT. studies show that ADHD medication is safe when used properly and it will allow you to have a sense of control and peace in your life.
4) make sure your school knows. they need to know to be able to help you with your classes. you will probably be put in special classes if you need more help. special classes arent for dumb kids. i was in special classes and now i am almost done with college.
5) make it a priority to have a therapist. someone you can talk to about ADHD because they can help you learn to love yourself better. trust me you are a great kid probably and kids with ADHD usually feel bad about it. DONT FEEL BAD PLEASE ITS OK TO HAVE ADHD.
here are some things to keep in mind.
it isnt your fault. it is a problem with your brain's wiring. thats all. the problem is in the area of the brain called the PREFRONTAL CORTEX which is responsible for EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING. people with ADHD have problems with EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING.
medication is the only thing that has been shown to help with that. dont listen to people who say exercise and diet. those help with losing weight. but dont do a damned thing for ADHD trust me.
keep in mind that you might have this for the rest of your life which means you will need medication forever. i have been on medication for 15 years and it doesnt really bother me so after a while it will just be part of your life.
i typed really fast and i have lots of typos here. just part of my ADHD i guess lol
