A cannery processed 1,445 pounds of strawberries in 4.5 hours. The cannery processed 2,320 pounds in 7 hours. Write a linear equation to model the relationship between the weight of strawberries S and time T. How many pounds of strawberries can be processed in 11 hours?

You have two points on the line:
(4.5, 1445) and (7, 2320)
So first we need to determine the slope, which is change in "y" over change in "x".
(2320 - 1445) / (7 - 4.5)
875 / 3.5
250
Now that we have the slope, and two points (each containing an x and y), we can use one of the points with the slope to get the intercept:
y = mx + b
1445 = 250(4.5) + b
1445 = 1125 + b
320 = b
So the equation is:
y = 250x + 320
How many pounds can be processed in 11 hours?
y = 250(11) + 320
y = 2750 + 320
y = 3070 lb
x is time (independent variable)
y is pounds of strawberries processed (dependent variable)
(4.5, 1445) and (7, 2320)
m = (2320 - 1445) / (7 - 4.5) = (875) / (2.5) = 350
(y - y1) = m(x - x1) [point-slope form of the line...]
can you finish ? Why not ? You can try !
[y = 350x - 130]
